Dry Needling
Performed by Experienced Bunbury Physiotherapists
Dry Needling is one of the highly effective treatment techniques used by our team at Spine & Sports Physiotherapy Bunbury. Both our physiotherapists and remedial massage therapists are trained in Dry Needling and often combine it with other hands-on therapies, such as massage, joint mobilisations, and exercise rehabilitation, to reduce your pain and help you move better.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry Needling involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into tight muscle bands known as trigger points. These trigger points can cause local pain and may also contribute to muscle weakness or limited movement. By releasing these trigger points, we can significantly reduce pain, restore normal movement, and improve muscle function.
There is no injection of any substance, which is why the technique is called dry needling. While similar in appearance to acupuncture, Dry Needling is based on modern Western science and focuses on musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
How Can Dry Needling Help?
Dry Needling can be an excellent addition to your treatment plan. It may help:
Relieve chronic neck and shoulder pain, including tension headaches and migraines
Ease stiffness from arthritis, wear and tear, or poor posture
Relax tight muscles from running, long hours on your feet, or overuse
Reduce nerve pain such as sciatica or trapped nerves
Improve mobility and accelerate recovery when paired with other therapies
Dry Needling is completely natural and safe when performed by our trained professionals. It is commonly used as part of a well-rounded rehab plan to get you back to doing what you love—faster.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Most people tolerate Dry Needling very well. You may feel a quick pinprick during treatment, followed by a mild ache or heaviness. Sometimes, a small red mark or mild soreness can develop at the needle site. This is normal and simply reflects the body’s natural healing response.
